Discovering Some Hidden Secrets of Brush Options - Corel Painter Tutorial
| Jacquelin Vanderwood | 1 | | There can be no greater program than Painter for the sheer magnitude of variety of painting options that you can come up with. I've never found the end of it's possibilities. If you're not very familiar with Painter, then this lesson in discovering some of the program's hidden secrets to brush options will give you an inkling of what is available to the Painter novice. Today I'll show you one brush, the Variable Round and some of the options that accompany it. Each brush is accompanied by a varied array of possibilities. | | 2 | | Here are the two dropdown dialogue boxes we'll discuss today, General and Impasto. | | 3 | | Under the Dab Type you'll find Circular, Single-Pixel, Static Bristle, and Captured. | | 4 | | Under Stroke Type there are four type: Single, Multi, Rake, and Hose. | | 5 | | In the Method dropdown menu are: Buildup, Cover, Eraser, Drip, Mask (Cover), Cloning, Wet, and Plug-in. | | 6 | | In the Subcategory: Soft Buildup, Grainy Soft Buildup, Grainy Edge Flat Buildup, Grainy Hard Buildup, and Soft Variable Buildup. | | 7 | | Under Impasto in the Draw to list is: Color, Depth, and Color Depth. | | 8 | | In Depth Method we have: Uniform, Erase, Paper, Original Luminance, and Weaving Luminance. | | 9 | | There are also a variety of other options as well: Source, Opacity, Grain, Invert, Negative Depth, Depth, Smoothing, and Plow. We have all these options for one brush with one style of brush selected. Now I'm sure I'm not able to cover everything these options can do but I'll try and show you a little to get you up and experimenting. | | 10 | | Let's start with this setup below. Don't forget that you can use the Controls:Brush to adjust the Size of the brush as well. Below I'll show you just one change in one category to give you the idea of what changes occur without making any other adjustments. | | 11 | | Here I've gone ahead and changed the Dab Type to Single-Pixel without changing anything else. | | 12 | | The first brush example below was achieved by changing nothing else since the above example but only changing the Dab type. The rest of the examples are a variety of techniques using the General and Impasto menus only. You can still achieve many more variations with just these two menus and the variable round brush. | Copyright 2001, Jacquelin Vanderwood, All Rights Reserved |
