I first begin by opening a photo in Photoshop and cropping the area I want to use.
I then open Exposure and adjust Gamma. From this point I want to save the picture for the web where I can optimize and reduce the size of it as well.
The next step is to open the photo up in Illustrator and apply Tracing Options where I select Color as the Mode and Max Color set to 16.
Here we can see a close-up of the result.
I then use the Save for Web option again.
Open the picture graphic up in Painter now. Apply a Quick Clone to the piece and change the brush to Cloners.
We'll use the Watercolor Wash Cloner.
I paint over the areas I want to show.
I change to Impressionist Cloner and paint over the leaves in the trees. From the Layers palette, click the arrow and choose Drop All.
From there I applied Brightness/Contrast to the piece.
The last step is to apply Adjust Dye Concentration set to Maximum of 0% and Minimum of 40% using Paper which I have chosen Hard Laid Paper, and then choose Fade set to 48%.
And here is the finished piece which seems strangely 1940ish. This can now be used in a variety of formats.
