Is it possible to create true professional effects in Photoshop? You bet it is. Let's take a look at the Photo Filter in this lesson to see what we can achieve. Below I have a digital photograph I took here in Kirkland, Washington.
To access the Photo Filter you first go to Image and the Adjustments.
The Photo Filter opens and we see that it automatically has a Warming Filter (85) applied to it by default. Under Use we are given the option to choose either an actual filter or select a color of our choice. Below that we see the Density option which allows us to specify just how much color we actually want to use. Finally we have Preserve Luminosity which we can turn on and off to see what version of the photo luminescence we want to use. You need to have Preview selected to be able to see the effects before pressing OK.
With the settings above we can see the effects of the filter above. Compare it to the original.
Without changing filters I just increased the Density of the filter to 50%, to 75%, and to 100%.
Now choose the Cooling Filter (82) and set the Density to 25%.
See how this filter effects the image.
Let's try the Red filter set to 63% Density.
This filter reminds us that this may be evening coming on. Interesting how the filters change the mood.

Here's the Deep Yellow filter set to 87%.
With Luminosity turned off and the set to Underwater, I set Density at 100%. Continue playing with the different settings to discover the variety of filters available, and try applying other filters on top of these.
