In this lesson you'll learn how to create a granite texture using the Conte Crayon, fill, texture, screen modes, and more.
To begin, create a new layer and place geometry on it such as I have done below. I drew this with the Pen tool.
Make it active by hitting the Enter key.
Fill it with a middle gray.
Deselect the geometry by pressing Control+D then apply Conte Crayon to the piece using the information below.
Take the Rectangle tool and delete some areas of the building.
Use the Burn tool set to Midtones and add some shadowing to the building.
Fill another layer above it with Dark Cool Brown. Change the layer mode to Lighten. Press Alt+Control+G to create a clipping mask. Select both layers and press Control+E to merge them together. Apply the Sandstone texture to this layer. Apply Perspective the building.
Apply Perspective to the building. Use the Polygonal Lasso tool a new layer below the building and create the windows and doorway. Use the Burn tool and the Dodge tool to create depth.
Apply the Sandstone texture to this layer and apply a mask. Change the layer mode to Hardlight.
In the last step apply cracks to the walls using black and a very small brush size. Change the layer mode to Overlay. To add more character to the building you can use the Eraser tool to roughen up some of the edges.
