In this tutorial you'll learn how to use the Quick Selection Tool as well as make changes to the color a animal. Tutorial Includes project files.
Here I have a photo that I'd like to use care of Photos.com.

Duplicate the photo to a new layer. Click on the Quick Selection Tool or W, the shortcut. Pick a good size brush and begin to select the goose. For smaller areas reduce the size of the brush and zoom in. If you pick up areas you don't want, press the Alt key while selecting that specific area.

Now select the Refine Edge button.

I notice that a dark feather area has not been selected so I exit out of Refine Edge and select it. Otherwise I am happy with the results.

Copy the selection and create a new channel so that the you can always access later if you have to.

On a new layer with the selection still active, change the layer mode to Multiply. Select a nice soft small round brush. Paint the image however you like.

Apply a Gaussian Blur to give it a more natural appearance.

So now we have a fairy tale goose all decked out in it's new colors. Have fun coloring.
