In this tutorial I'll show you how to export a Maya file and import it into Photoshop CS3 Extended and manipulate it as a 3D object.
Here's the Maya file I want to export to Photoshop.

Select Window>Settings/Preferences>Plug-in Manager.

Go down in the list and check objExport.mll. Close it.

Still in Maya go to File and choose Save Scene As and select the OBJexport selection when saving the file.

In Photoshop find the file and open it.

If you are satisfied with the size, press OK.

Next go to Layer and select 3D Layers then choose Transform 3D Model.

Because the geometry was shaded with a Toon shader from Maya, it did not transfer over.

Now that we have transformed the file into a 3D layer, the menu has changed and if you are familiar with 3D programs, then you should have no trouble understanding some of the settings below.

You can move the model around with the Camera settings.

Lights can be changed.

The appearance can be changed as well.

The model can also be cross sectioned in a variety of views you specify. But that's not all and I'll cover that in another tutorial.
