In this tutorial I'll show you how to create crumpled paper without leaving Photoshop.
We start with a background layer and a layer that has a rectangle that represents paper. With the paper selected created a new layer so that you still have the shape of the paper.

Click on the Gradient Tool and select the white to black gradient with the Linear type selected and Difference mode too. Create a gradient with the selected shape area.

Use the Gradient Tool to create small strokes around the gradient that was just created.

Apply Emboss with the settings below.

I turned the paper layer back on and made sure it was above the embossed layer. I then changed the layer mode to Overlay. Then I selected both layers and combined them Control+E.

I then added a drop shadow and called it finished.
