In this tutorial we'll create a caricature of a carrot.
Start by setting up guides then use the Pen tool to create the shape of the carrot. Create a new layer as well.

Hit Enter to make the selection active, then Shift+Backspace to fill with the carrot color. Clear the guides as well.

Using the Pen tool and a small brush size, also change to a darker orange, use the Shift key to and click at a starting place, find the next part that you want to end at at and click. Do this for the whole outline.

Select the Burn tool set to Highlights, and block in the shadows for the facial features and the side shadows. Reduce the size of the brush by using the [ key. Set in the lines that are horizontal.

Use the Dodge tool set to Shadows and make highlights. I had to go over the eyes several times.

Select the Paintbrush tool and and a medium dark gray color and paint in the pupils.

Select the Burn tool set to Highlights with a little larger brush size and work in some more shadow detal.

Open Liquify and if necessary reduce the size of the brush, then add indents, and possibly manipulate the end of the carrot.

Select the Dodge tool set to Midtones at 50% Exposure and increase the size of the brush. Add in more highlights.

Select the Burn tool set to Highlights with Exposure set to 20% and increase the brush size. Add in more shadowing.

New layer. Using the Pen tool draw the leaves at the top and fill (Shift+Backspace) with green.

Use the Dodge and Burn tools to make shadow and highlights then apply the Sponge filter to it.

Select the carrot layer and select the Burn tool and create shadows. Select both layers and press Control+E to combine them.

Finally, select the Burn tool set to Highlights and Exposure set to 40%, increase the size of the brush and accentuate the shadows where Liquify was used.
