In this tutorial we will show you how to convert a common photo into a cool brush photo effect in Photoshop CS3.
Start with a black canvas and then paste the photo that you are about to use:

Now use a radial gradient using brown colors:


Then, duplicate your photo and hide the original.

After that, use the eraser and select the following settings:

Then, start erasing with a soft brush.
Do not erase the whole pic, just some parts:

After doing so, duplicate the original photo again and smudge around the edges.

Then go to: Filter/Distort/Ripple:


This is how it looks like with your original photo visible:

Then, apply the Dodge tool over the edges:

After that, select the background Layer and start painting it with the C4D brush Type:

Then, you must go to the Channel Mixer Window:

Select the following settings:

Now, we need to sharpen the background Layer.

After that, select the smudge Layer and give it a 44% of Brightness to your pic:
