This book was originally written in French and translated to English. While it is a short book in terms of pages, the wealth of information is tremendous and has excellent explanations and example images. Each of the 8 areas (termed "Studios" in the book) are written by a different person and covers a different area of photo retouching. After reading through the book several times I found myself practicing several of the techniques in several of our design clients projects and received excellent feedback on the work that was produced using this book as a guideline.
It is definitely a must have on any Photoshop users bookshelf.
What is covered in the book:
Image Restoration - Restoration of very old photos
Digital Surgery - Fixing photos
Late Afternoon Nosy Be - Photo Manipulation
Beauty Institute - Working with and manipulating persons in photographs to bring out the best in a subject as well as creative effects
Sails, Perspectives, and Curves - Photo Montages
